Challenge:
By conducting a comprehensive audit of the company’s energy, steam, and compressed consumption and deep diving into solutions with a design thinking approach, I led the team in generating significant cost reductions and efficiencies. The approach included evaluating energy-specific unit operations like boilers, compressors, and others to increase their efficiency profile and develop a logical scheme to reduce steam venting and balance air pressure throughout the manufacturing facility park.
Action:
Simultaneously, a new boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) evaluation was conducted and reported to the EPA with a path of correction. This allowed me to understand the importance of regulatory compliance. The findings were presented to plant leadership for correction.
Result:
The initiatives led to a substantial reduction in energy and steam costs, resulting in annual savings of $1 million. The combustion safety analyses and subsequent improvements enhanced operational safety and minimized risks. The fruitful discussions with regulatory authorities not only ensured compliance. This success story underscored my ability to drive significant financial and operational improvements while championing sustainability and safety.
