Challenge:
A community of 5,000 people in rural Ethiopia needed a sanitation system.
Action:
As part of my 1,000+ hours of volunteering, I led the technical team to design and construct two latrines. I negotiated with the community on terms of engagement, selected EPC and contractors, and implemented changes within a cultural framework.
Result:
The project expanded to include two buildings and inspired the community to build showers and other facilities. It was successfully completed within budget and with strong cultural acceptance.
